CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Vinyasa
— all levels
One of the most important practices of yoga is pranayama, or breath work. The emphasis of this class is to connect both movement and breath in a continuous fluid motion. Using many of the traditional or well-known yoga asana, or postures, such as Sun Salutations, this class will provide you the opportunity to strengthen both the physical and the mental in a more active form of yoga. Not only will this class teach you to become better aware of your breath and its vital role, but it will also improve your mind-body connection, enabling you to use your breath as a tool for living a whole and peaceful life.
Restorative Yoga
— all levels
Restorative yoga provides a gentle lunar practice to help you decompress, stretch, relax, and restore. This is a perfect class for practitioners of all levels — from those with low back pain or tight muscles to those who want to deepen their ability to stretch and release.
Yin Yoga
— all levels
“I’m not flexible enough to do yoga” is a very common misconception that sadly prevents many from receiving the whole-person wellness benefits that yoga offers. One of the chief purposes of yoga is to improve flexibility, and this class will do exactly that — offering depth and release as gentle poses are held for three to five minutes. Through a prolonged exploration of the pose, a greater openness is revealed as deeper layers of fascia (connective tissue) release. When practicing yin yoga, you will not only increase flexibility, but also gain an appreciation of meditation as you learn the art of being present throughout the postures. This, in turn, will allow you to become more in tune with your body as you proactively counter and prevent stiffness, aches, and pains, while enhancing posture, alignment, and flexibility.
Yin + Nidra
— all levels
This class begins with a yin yoga practice (as described above) and ends with a yoga nidra. Yoga nidra, or “yogic sleep” as it is commonly known, is an immensely powerful meditation technique, and one of the easiest yoga practices to develop and maintain. While you restscomfortably in savasana (corpse pose), this systematic meditation takes you through the pancha maya kosha (five layers of self), leaving you with a sense of deep peace and wholeness.
Meditation
— all levels
Meditation is the practice of drawing inward to still the body and quiet the mind. There are many techniques (guided visualization, sacred word, loving kindness, etc.) that help achieve this sense of inner stillness and peace, and these classes explore many of those options. Ultimately, the practice of meditation helps to develop self-awareness, calm the nervous system, and recenter our priorities and actions.
Prenatal + Postpartum Yoga
— all levels
Prenatal and postpartum yoga is a form of gentle yoga designed to complement the growing needs of a pregnant body during all three trimesters and after birth. The focus is on restorative poses that keep you safe while practicing movement, stretching, deep breathing, and mental centering. This class will help you create space in your body, feel invigorated, and relieve common pregnancy and postpartum related discomforts — helping you feel empowered, peaceful, and at home in your body. Each class is attuned to your specific needs and is as unique as the bodies present and the babies within them.
Alignment Flow (Hatha)
— all levels
This class begins with meditation and/or pranayama. Throughout class, using supportive props, students will slow down and pay attention to their physical alignment in postures, based on Iyengar methods. This class is ideal for those who plan on practicing yoga for a lifetime, as it allows the practitioner to refine and grow their practice.
Slow Flow
— all levels
This class takes Vinyasa to a whole new level. We believe when you slow your life down, you give your body time to heal and your mind time to recover. Come experience the true essence of vinyasa with this slow-paced flow class that puts an emphasis on linking movements with the breath to create the ultimate moving meditation. Creative playlists and uniquely designed sequences will help guide you through a personal journey, allowing the movement practice to draw you deeper into the present moment and closer to your true self.
Power Flow
— experience recommended
Power Yoga is all about finding your inner strength. This class is designed to challenge you and take you to your edge while linking breath to movement, which allows the practice to become a mindfulness meditation.
“An offshoot of Ashtanga Yoga, it has many of the same qualities and benefits, including building internal heat, increased stamina, strength, and flexibility, as well as stress reduction. Teachers design their own sequences, while students synchronize their breath with their movement. The original Power Yoga was developed and founded by Beryl Bender Birch, but is now a term used to describe many vigorous vinyasa styles.” — Yoga Journal
